A Transaction Linked to This Billing Document Already Exists

Billing documents may show a "Complete" status but fail to post, displaying an error message that a linked transaction already exists. This error occurs when a transaction reference remains in the background after a rollback, even though it appears empty in the user interface. To resolve this, the orphaned accounting transaction field must be cleared.

Symptoms
  • Billing Document is Complete
  • Posting Status = "Error"
  • Posting Error = "Insert failed. First exception on row 0; first error: FIELD_CUSTOM_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION, A transaction linked to this billing document already exists.: [c2g__BillingDocument__c]"
  • Accounting Transaction shows empty in the user interface

Resolution
  • Empty Accounting Transaction field (to be done by certinia), correct the issue that originated the error and Retry Post
Cause
  • When posting the Billing Document, somehow an account was created in Accounting. Then for any reason, it was rolled back (not saved), but Accounting Transaction was left populated in the Billing Document
  • Accounting Transaction shows empty in the user interface, but it is populated in the background
Additional Notes
  • This can be checked using the following query on the developer console: SELECT Id, Name, fferpcore__DocumentStatus__c, c2g__Transaction__c, c2g__Transaction__r.Name, c2g__PostingStatus__c, c2g__PostingError__c, FROM fferpcore__BillingDocument__c WHERE c2g__Transaction__c != null and c2g__Transaction__r.Id = null and fferpcore__DocumentStatus__c = 'Complete'
  • After running the above query, the c2g__Transaction__c field will show populated with an Id but the c2g__Transaction__r.Name will show as (null c2g__Transaction__r)
