AC: Error Message “The period 101 must be open before running the year-end process” When Running Year End Process

While running the Year End process, the user encountered the following error: “The period 101 must be open before running the year-end process.” This error, despite the Final Close field being unchecked, is attributed to a Hard Close configuration on Closing Period 101.

Symptoms
  • When running the Year End process an error occurs
  • Steps to replicate:
    • Go to App Launcher > Years > click on Start Year End
    • Go to Periods Related List
    • Verify the Details Related List for the Closing Period 101:
      • The Hard Close Options = "ALL GLAs"
      • The Soft Close to uncheck
      • The Final Close to uncheck
    • Error Message: "The period 101 must be open before running the year-end process"

Resolution
  1. Go to App Launcher > Years
  2. Click on Periods Related List
  3. Go to the Closing Period 101
  4. Set the field Hard Close Options to "null", empty values
Cause

 

  • The Closing Period is open, but the field c2g__HardCloseOptions__c is populated
  • The system retrieves the record for period 101, which shows the following details:
    • Id: a1bXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    • c2g__PeriodNumber__c: 101
    • c2g__YearName__c: a21XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    • c2g__HardCloseOptions__c: "All GLAs"
  • Since Hard Close Options_c is set to "All GLAs", this period is considered completely closed
  • A hard-closed period strictly prevents any postings or adjustments, even if it appears as "Open"
  • As a result, the Year-End process fails to post closing entries directly into the Closing Period 101
  • The validation error thrown is: "The period 101 must be open before running the year-end process"
