Accounting: Error Message: "The Account Trading Currency is Not Defined" When Attempting to Post a Document

An error stating "The account trading currency is not defined" occurs when posting a document. This error is caused by discrepancies in currency settings. To resolve this, ensure the Account Trading Currency and Account Currency fields match on the relevant Account. It may also be necessary to configure the correct currency for the company or add a corresponding accounting exchange rate.

Symptoms
  • When trying to post a document, the following error message is displayed: "Account: The account trading currency is not defined. You must go to the related Account to enter a value"

Resolution

Resolution One

  1. Navigate to the Account entered. 
  2. If the value entered in the Account Trading Currency field differs from that entered in the Account Currency field, and no Transactions have been posted to the Account, then amend the two currency fields to match. 

Resolution Two

  1. Delete the Journal
  2. Create and post a new one. 

Resolution Three

  • If the Account Trading Currency is populated with a Currency value on the Account, but the related Company does not have an Accounting Currency setup with that Currency, then set up the Currency for the Company concerned.

Resolution Four

  • Add an Accounting Currency rate with an appropriate date for the exchange rate in question
Cause
  • Differing values in the  Account Trading Currency field and the Account Currency field.
  • Although the Account Trading Currency was populated with a Currency value on the Account, the related Company did not have an Accounting Currency setup with that Currency.  
  • There was no Accounting Exchange Rate in existence for the currency specified as the Account Trading Currency
Additional Notes
  • Similar error maybe presented should the  Account Trading Currency field be blank. In this case, enter the correct value to resolve. 
  • If old Transactions have been posted to the Account, the Account Trading Currency field will be locked. Open a case to Certinia support for further investigation.
