ArticlesFDN: Error Message: “Access Error [E2003] Unauthorized connection to external site” Displaying in the System Admin Workspace

Before January 26, 2026, the error mentioned below happened after updating the Foundations Workspace package to Winter 2024 SP2 or a later version. After January 26, 2026, a security update happened in Certinia systems, so all Foundations Workspace on Winter 2024 SP2 and prior are affected. 

Steps to Recreate:

1. Go to App Launcher > System Admin Workspace
2. Under ‘Updates and Product Versions’ section an error occurs: 
   • "Access Error [E2003] Unauthorized connection to external site: Go to Setup->SETTINGS->Security->Remote Site Settings {SMC} -> Edit, select the Active checkbox and click Save. Contact Support"

• Foundations Workspaces 
• Winter 2024 SP3 and prior versions

1. Update Foundations Workspaces package to Winter 2024 SP3 (2024.102.4)
2. Go to Setup > Remote Site Settings
3. Click Edit against Remote Site Name "SMC"
4. Update the Remote Site URL to the actual endpoint ([https://smc-api.prod.internal.smc.certinia.com|) should allow the callout to succeed.
5. Ensure that the Active checkbox is enabled
6. Click Save

• Note: users might receive a prompt to grant access to this website automatically during the installation of FDN Workspace. Manual verification ensures that the setting has been maintained or corrected.

• After the Certinia update on authentication methods between the orgs and our internal systems, released on Winter 2024 SP3. Organizations in a previous version won’t be able to use the system.
