Symptoms
  • Following error is received when clicking the Calculate Tax button on a Sales Invoice or Sales Credit Note: "External tax calculation must be enabled for the org and the owner company".
Environment
  • Certinia Accounting
  • All versions
Resolution
  1. If the using Avalara for taxes, then the system administrator can take the following steps to ensure that the ability to calculate taxes is enabled:
    1. All Tabs (+)
    2. External Tax Calculation Settings tab 
    3. Check mark  Enable External Tax Calculation
    4. Save
    5. Follow the rest of the steps in Setting up External Tax Calculation
  2. If using the default taxes, not Avalara, then do not use the Calculate Tax button which is only for External Taxes. 
Cause
  • Enable External Tax Calculation  is not enabled in the org. for using Avalara Tax
