ArticlesPSA: How To Align Assignment Dates with Resource Request Dates?

When creating a new assignment from an existing Resource Request (RR), the assignment does not inherit the start and end dates from the RR, defaulting to a single day instead.

1. Verify Preferred Schedule

• Ensure the Resource Request has a "Preferred Schedule" defined as the system relies on this data to accurately copy dates and hours to the assignment

• Note that using a preferred schedule is an alternative to using a scheduling strategy, and it will override the scheduling strategy if present

• The following scheduling strategies keep the dates from the filters/Resource Request: "Adjust Hours per Day", "% Allocation", "Custom", "Zero Hour Schedule"

2. Configure Assignment Settings

• Navigate to Setup > Custom Settings

• Click Manage next to 'Assignment Settings'

• Ensure the Retain Schedule On Assign field is selected to preserve the preferred schedule (including start/end dates) when a resource is assigned

• Within the same 'Assignment Settings' menu, ensure the default scheduling strategy is set to "Adjust Hours Per Day"

3. Adjust "Inherit Dates" for Planners

If you are creating assignments via planners (e.g., Work Planner or Project Planner), verify the Inherit Dates for Create Assignment field in 'Assignment Settings':

• If this box is checked, the assignment will default to Project dates

• Deselect this box to ensure the system honors the Resource Request dates

4. Operational Best Practices

When assigning a Resource Request:

• Ensure your filter matches the resource start and end dates

• Confirm that the managed schedule is set to "Adjust Hours Per Day"

Pro-Tip: Setting Default Scheduling Strategy

(Note: Resourcing LWC follows its own LAB option for Default Scheduling Strategy, rather than the 'Assignment Settings' custom setting)

To ensure the managed schedule defaults to "Adjust Hours Per Day" consistently:

1. Navigate to the Resource Request page

2. Click the gear icon and select Edit Page

3. In the right-hand panel, locate the Attributes Column Field Set

4. Set this to "Adjust Hours Per Day" and save your changes
